A Tribute by Richard King - K5NA, April 29, 2004:

I am very saddened to hear about Butch.

When I was there to do my presentation at the April 8th meeting Butch was there to say "hello" and talk with me for a while.  He was a dear friend and he leaves many pleasant memories behind.

Many of you weren't around in the late 70's when I went through a tough divorce and became a single parent with two small children.  I was struggling in many ways and several of our club members stepped forward to help me through those trying times.

Butch Barber was one of those that tried to help.  He and his family showed me and my kids great kindness and even took us to their weekend house at Canyon Lake for a fun-filled weekend of boating and tubing.  It was a weekend that my kids and I still remember with great fondness.

Butch was one of the finest men that I have ever known.  I never heard him speak ill of anyone because his standards were above that.

I had wanted to come to the funeral but I have a serious conflict here that keeps me from doing so.  I regret that I can't make it.  Those of you attending please convey my most sincere condolences to Butch's family.

Butch will certainly be missed.
Richard King - K5NA

A letter to TDXS from the Barber family:

"We thank the Texas DX Society for the beautiful basket of flowers you sent for Butch's funeral. We are grateful to all who came to the services. Your support has meant a lot to us.  I know you'll miss Butch, too.  Ham radio was such a big part of his life."

Sincerely,

Angie Barber and Family
