A group of six members of the Texas DX Society operated from San Andres Island, Colombia

from February 28 - March 6th, 2008. 

This included participation in the ARRL International DX Contest (Phone) on March 1-2.

Our callsign was 5JE for all QSOs.

Thanks to all who spotted us on the DX clusters.

The group used two separate stations with beam and vertical antennas,

for SSB, CW and digital modes.

 

 

The operators were: (l-r) K5WAF, W5PR, N4AL, W5PF, NM5G & WF5W.

Straight key always attached.  Hold: DXCC Honor Roll (Mixed),  5BDXCC,  P100 Oblast award.  TDXS Vice President of Programs.

Paul W5PF

First licensed in 1963 as KN3YNI. Licensed again in 1970 as WB5DBT.

Held LA0FV and worked portable as LA0FV/PA in 1988-1990.  DXpeditions include J3/W5PF in 2001, V63PF in 2003, VP8WWW in 2004, Malta 2006, Belize 2007, BVI 2007. Contested at XA5T and 6D2YFM including the Number 1 NA Multi-single Phone team in 2002.  DXCC Honor Roll Mixed. I have operated mostly phone but have done more CW and RTTY recently. TDXS Vice President of Membership & Bullsheet Editor.

Keith NM5G

First licensed in 1977 as WD5DXL.  Upgraded to Extra in 2004 and obtained vanity call sign NM5G.  DXpeditions: signed VP8DXL from Falkland Is. in 2004. Made a clean sweep in Nov 1995 ARRL Sweepstakes.  Coordinated, & was SSB captain for NARS 2005 Field Day in which we placed 5th in Class 2A.  NARS newsletter editor since 1995.  NARS Treasurer for 5 yrs & secretary for one year.  Favorite mode is SSB.  Love to design and build antenna systems.

Bill K5WAF

First licensed 1963 as WN2LYO. Previous callsigns: WB2LYO, and /9
while attending Purdue. Re-licensed as WB8TKD in 1974. Received K5WAF in
Houston Sept 2000. 9H3WF 2006, VP2V/K5WAF 2007. Served as TDXS Field Day Chairman & Treasurer in 2005 & 2006. Currently serving TDXS as
Secretary/Treasurer. DXCC: 5BDXCC, 7 Band Mixed, Phone, CW & RTTY. Favorite mode: CW

Chuck W5PR

Chuck was 13 years old when first licensed as a novice in 1957 as KN5LQU.  His family moved to California the next year when he upgraded and obtained WA6HTD.  After that, the family moved to Germany where he operated three years as DL4FQ.  Back in the "States" he held several calls: KE5FI, KZ5MM and finally, W5PR.  Chuck is very active in contesting and has won a number of single-band plaques on 6, 10 and 80 meters in various contests as well as winning several times in the phone only category of his favorite, the ARRL Ten Meter Contest.  Past President of TDXS (1996).

Jim N4AL

First licensed in 1966 as WN4DSB. Held the call AA5F for twenty years before obtaining the call N4AL while living in Alabama in 1999. Has held the call SV0JB since 1992 and operates regularly from a QTH near Athens, Greece. A member of the ARRL and the Radio Amateur Association of Greece, he holds DXCC from both countries and is on the DXCC Honor Roll and holds 5BDXCC in the USA. Operates SSB, CW, and RTTY.
